Quizzin' for Macmillan

Quizzin' for Macmillan

Sun, 28 Aug 2022 19:00

On Sunday evening there will be a quiz in The Chequers to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Our brilliant village pub has organised an amazing raffle. If you can make the quiz that would be fantastic, (booking recommended as it's looking busy already) but if you can't, the raffle is well worth entering anyway as the prizes are stupendous, thanks to some generous local support. Tickets available from the pub if you want in - you could even grab a drink while you are there!!! Cheers!

FoSM fruit stall

Sat, 03 Sep 2022 10:30

The Friends of St Mary's pop-up fruit stall will be open at Dove House, Rectory Lane this Saturday from 10.30 am until the fruit has been sold.

Fifty years ago there were hundreds of fruit farms in Cambridgeshire. Today there are less than 50. So we have joined a group of healthy fruit lovers trying to help these farmers survive. We will buy their fruit at a price greater than they get from the wholesaler and then sell it to you at a price that is a little more to make a profit for the charity we support. In the process you get high quality fruit at a price better than you could buy it in your average supermarket.

Most Saturdays we will open at 10.30 am and remain open until the fruit has been sold. On Fowlmere Farmers' Market Days, we will start at 11.30 am. You can pay by cash, card or smart device.

if you have empty jars or plastic punnets, ones that have only been used for food, please wash them, and bring them along next time - we'll try to reuse them.

If you want to pre-order, please drop me an email at Barry.a.jones1970@gmail.com by Thursday and we will put aside your fruit.

This Saturday the following will be for sale

  • Gages: Green and Count Althann
  • Plums: Victoria.
  • Damsons: Merryweather
  • Apples: Laxton's Fortune (eaters) and Lord Lamborn (eaters) and Bramley (cookers)
  • Pears: Buerre Hardy
  • Bottles: Apple Juice
  • 12 oz Jars: Honey and preserves.

We hope to see you on Saturday. Don't forget your shopping bag!
